For Authors!

I didn't become an author on my own. I had lots of encouragement from my family, and I benefitted from the knowledge of other authors, to whom I'm grateful beyond words. And now I'm paying it forward by offering my expertise in the form of writing workshops.

It's been both an honor and a privilege to teach students eager to learn the techniques that might one day help them achieve their goal of becoming a published author.

My workshops are given on-line through several writers' groups, and they're available to everyone for a very reasonable fee. They range in topic from creating characters to writing dialogue to writing a killer plot twist.

Are you having trouble showing your story rather than telling it? I can help with that! Beginning October 6, I'll be teaching my workshop, Show Don't Tell: The Writer's Golden Rule. We’ll examine how to effectively use the five senses and show emotions and inner thoughts. You’ll learn how to replace passive verbs with active ones, and the dos and don’ts of writing dialogue. I’ll show you how to use body language, how to add those details that make your story real, and how to show your setting so your reader feels as if she’s “there.”

From November 3-28, I'll be presenting Digging Deep: Researching Your Novel. introduce you to various research methods, as well as different options for organizing your research. Topics covered will include using written sources, libraries and archives, and the media to help in your research.

I'll also be presenitng my workshop, The Captive Audience: Writing a Series, from November 1-30. In this class, we'll explore the benefits of writing a series, We'll look at the Series Bible, the Central Conflict, the fictional world of your series, and the importance of establishing your central characters early.

I hope to see some of you there. I enjoy teaching these workshops and using what I’ve learned to help other authors.

I'll update this page every month that I'm teaching a class, and I hope you'll join me!

Happy writing always!
